The Philadelphia Union's Auston Trusty, formerly of Nether United and Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer ODP, heads to Costa Rica this weekend with the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team for the CONCACAF U-20 Championship. The United States will attempt to qualify for this summer's U-20 World Cup, which will take place in South Korea, May 20 - June 11.
Four teams will qualify for the World Cup from CONCACAF. The United States has appeared in the finals of the regional tournament 14 times, a record it shares with rival Mexico. The Americans open against Panama on Saturday, February 18. They play Haiti on February 21 and St. Kitts & Nevis on February 24 to round out Group B Play. Should the United States finish atop the group, they'll advance to the classification stage. A top-two finish there will earn them a trip to South Korea.
Trusty has represented the U.S. several times at the Youth National Team level. He played at the 2015 U-17 World Cup in Chile and has been a fixture in YNT camps ever since.
The Media native signed a homegrown deal with the Union in August of 2016.
