Former Eastern Pennsylvania President to be honored at gala in January

Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer would like to congratulate Rick Tompkins for his election into the US Youth Soccer Hall of Fame class of 2020. Rick has been dedicated to the sport his entire life as a player, coach and administrator. Rick served as President of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer while also holding various additional positions at the state, regional and national level. He served on the US Youth Soccer Region I risk management committee, and the US Youth Soccer national risk management committee for fourteen years. As a member and chair of the US Youth Soccer Risk Management committee, he was instrumental in developing the US Youth Soccer Risk Management Program that is used today.

In addition to his eight years as president, Rick has acted as Eastern Pennsylvania’s Arbitration Committee Chair and acted as its pro-bono attorney for nearly twenty years. Rick has spent the last three decades as an Olympic Development Program staff coach. A US Soccer A licensed coach, Rick is the current head coach for Eastern Pennsylvania ODP U16 Boys team.

“The award is very gratifying and represents all the outstanding people that I have been privileged to meet through our great game,” Rick Tompkins said. “I want to send a special thank you to Charlotte Moran, Joe Marsden, Pete Kennedy and his wife, Marianne but there are so many other friends and influencers that I could not possibly do them justice. Thank you to everyone else that I’m unable to name.”

“Rick’s exemplary work on US Youth Soccer’s Risk Management Committee has been invaluable.  His service to Eastern Pennsylvania has been extraordinary. His overall commitment to the game, exceptional,” Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer CEO Chris Branscome said. “Rick has been my friend, teammate, mentor and colleague for nearly thirty years and there is no one more deserving of this honor.”

An attorney by day, the former Penn State player also finds time to be the Girls Head Coach at Abington High School. Rick has already garnered multiple awards for his service to soccer, including the USSF Bob McNulty Award for Coaching Excellence, Eastern Pennsylvania’s Service to Youth Award and in 2005 he was inducted into the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremonies will take place at The US Youth Soccer Awards Gala on January 18 in Baltimore, MD alongside the United Soccer Coaches convention.
