Union continue homestand looking to extend franchise record for consecutive home wins

CHESTER, Pa. (April 26, 2016) – The Philadelphia Union continue their longest homestand of the season this Saturday as they host the San Jose Earthquakes at Talen Energy Stadium. This match features two teams with four wins each in the 2016 season. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. (EST) and will be televised live on 6abc.

Philadelphia is 3-4-1 all-time against San Jose, but has won the last two meetings. The last match saw the Union earn a 2-1 victory in San Jose on September 5, 2015. After falling behind 1-0, Conor Casey recorded both goals in the final 26 minutes of play to secure the win. The last meeting at Talen Energy Stadium came on August 24, 2015 in a 4-2 victory for the Union.

The Union will look to continue their winning ways after defeating NYCFC last Saturday afternoon at Talen Energy Stadium. Philadelphia got ahead early with goals from Chris Pontius and C.J. Sapong in the first half and didn’t relinquish control the rest of the match. Philadelphia’s defense held David Villa and the rest of NYCFC to one shot on goal.

Philadelphia will look to continue on their historic run on Saturday. The club has won a franchise record five consecutive home matches. The streak dates back to September 20, 2015 when they defeated the Houston Dynamo 2-0. During the streak the Union have out-scored their opponents 10-1, with Sapong recording five of those goals. The Union are a perfect 4-0-0 this season when scoring the first goal of the match.

San Jose enters Saturday’s match 4-2-2 this season. They are currently in a three-way tie for third place in the Western Conference. The club is led by USMNT forward Chis Wondolowski. This season Wondolowski leads Major League Soccer with seven goals. The head coach of the Earthquakes Dominic Kinnear. The native of Glasgow, Scotland has won four MLS Cups. Two as the head coach of the Houston Dynamo, and two as an assistant for the Earthquakes.
