Becky Edwards, a Downingtown native and former Eastern Pennsylvania ODP player, announced her retirement from professional soccer earlier today. A midfielder with Orlando Pride, Edwards enjoyed a seven-year career after starring at Florida State University.
She was one of two Southeastern Pennsylvania natives on the Pride, in its inaugural season of the NWSL, along with Maddy Evans. Edwards, 28, also was a fixture on US Youth National Teams, captaining the under-20 USWNT to a victory at the 2008 U20 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Orlando plays its final game of the season this Saturday against FC Kansas City.
