The Philadelphia Union are 2025 Supporters’ Shield winners after defeating New York City FC 1-0 on Saturday. With the win, the Union secured their place at the top of Major League Soccer, improving their record to 20-6-7, setting a new club record for total wins in a season, and reaching 66 points through 33 matches played. The Shield marks the second in club history and guarantees the Union will finish the regular season with the best overall record in all of MLS, no matter the outcome of their final match.
The Supporters’ Shield is awarded annually to the MLS team that earns the most points throughout the regular season. It was first introduced by fans in the league’s early years as a way to recognize the top-performing team outside of the playoff format and has since become one of MLS’s most prestigious trophies.
This year’s Union squad has been one of the most consistent in the league, allowing just 33 goals to lead all MLS defenses, setting a new club record for away wins, and continuing to make Subaru Park one of the toughest places to play.
While the Shield is a milestone achievement, the Union’s season isn’t finished yet. The team also secured home-field advantage throughout the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs, positioning them for another run at the league’s top prize. The Union will close out the regular season on October 18 against Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium before turning their focus to the postseason.
