The U.S. Women’s National Team showed its resilience Tuesday night at Subaru Park, rallying from a two-goal halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Spain. Spain controlled much of the opening 45 minutes, with Alexia Putellas scoring in her milestone 150th international appearance. Despite trailing 2-0 for the second consecutive match against Spain, the Americans responded with a much-improved second half in front of an energetic crowd in Chester.
Ashley Sanchez sparked the comeback just minutes after halftime with her first international goal since 2022, shifting the momentum in the Americans’ favor. The U.S. continued to pressure Spain before Mallory Swanson capped the comeback in the 86th minute, finishing Michelle Cooper’s cross for the equalizer, scoring her first international goal since returning from maternity leave. The 2-2 draw gave the USWNT a confidence-building result in its final match before World Cup qualifying!
