RE: Opening Weekend of the 20-21 Season
This is a brief reminder that as we open the league seasons this weekend, we must remain vigilant in our care and responsibility towards the players, coaches, referees and spectators. You have all done so much to prepare for this moment and we want to be able to see this season through to the end.
Our tournament operators have done an outstanding job and set the standards. They’ve taught us all a few lessons in preparedness. Teams and spectators have been compliant with the general protocols but also those of the tournaments. Therefore, we’ve seen a positive return to competition for those teams that have been able to do so. For those that have yet to compete, your training and spirit will be on display this weekend as league seasons begin.
Our leagues are equally prepared to open. This has not been an easy lead up, but I can tell you that our travel and rec leagues are ready. Health and safety issues are being discussed regularly among the league representative along with our staff. The intramural leagues have been working hard and preparing just the same. We’re all anticipating a smooth season, but if we’ve learned anything in recent months, we’re prepared to react and adjust.
Our referee community is ready. Our referee committee is committed and engaged. They’ve collaborated with us and have addressed a number of issues. They’re prepared for all of our health and safety concerns. They’re ready and able to train new referees too. Contact them and set up a class this fall.
As you make your final preparations for the season, we’ve created a condensed version of the various guidelines and protocols for the fall season. It includes information on referee protocols as well as reinforcing the standards we’ve already established. As you know, information may change at any time. We will continue to communicate as it does and as we can best interpret or verify it.
2020-21 Fall Season Guidelines
The most important thing to remember is that we must do this right. We all must comply with the orders, mandates, best practices and guidelines to help our kids stay safe and healthy. When they stay safe and healthy, they can continue to play soccer. At a time when other things are still not safe, or normal, this is the gift we can give to these kids. The chance to play comes above all else- trophies and medals are secondary at best. Please adhere to the guidelines and respect the rules when you visit each other’s fields. This is our chance to show we can do things right and we can do it safely. We can be leaders in the youth sports community and be an example to others.
Best of luck this weekend and this season. Be well and stay safe.
