Today our team traveled more than an hour into the country village of Vipperod to play the local team. Vipperod has a population of roughly 2,400 with six soccer teams, which is quite remarkable for a town that small. Their clubhouse and complex are amazing with three full-sided fields, three small-sided fields, clubhouse and indoor training facilities.

Our E-PA girls closed out the week with a 8-0 win over the team and completed the week undefeated and while the trip was successful, our team really got the educational experience that this type of opportunity offers. We were royally hosted by the town and club to a full Danish meal after the game and by far this town was so appreciative of us coming to play. This was the first international game ever for this group of players from Vipperod. We were as honored as they were.

We returned back to our Farum Park Hotel and immediately got back into the Danish Premier League atmosphere as we were treated as VIP guests of the FCN team...(club box seats, refreshments all on the team). We were again provided the royal treatment by the FCN club. After the game, we were met by Michael Parkhurst, former New England Revolution MLS player who sat with us for 30 minutes answering questions about his time here in Denmark, the lifestyle, his family and his experiences. He specifically mentioned the value of ODP while he was growing up in Rhode Island.

Coincidentally, the FCN teram played against Aarlburg, which featured Chris Rolfe on the team. Chris, a 17-year-old former Chicago Fire MLS player, greeted us as well and took a picture with the team. Chris scored one of the goals yesterday in a 3-3 tie. Both players were more than generous with their time and sharing their experiences with us.

To finish off the day, we had an Easter egg hunt in the evening as the team made calls home to the states wishing families a Happy Easter. We had a great experience with this fine group of young women, many of whom know each other, many who play against each other and are now bonded together as the first E-PA team to make the European Soccer Tour.

Good Morning from FC LYNGBY here in Denmark! After three days of consecutive games, a persevering and very tired E-PA team won over local Danish Pro League team FC LYNGBY 2-0. Goals from Kate Suchodolski (Langhorne PA) and Nicki Weiss (Warrington PA) scored the games only goals. The team is 3-0 so far during the European tour.

Today we travelled to Hillerod to play one of the top teams in Denmark, our team started slow giving up a gaol about five minutes into the game.  The half ended Hillerod 1 - 0 over E-PA.

The team re-grouped in the second half, talked about speed of play into the attack and organized itself quickly scoring three minutes into the second half on a Elana Falcone goal. Kate Hackos, opened her International Scoring account and put the game wiiner in at the 25th minute of the second half with the Hillerod team putting 8 players into the attack. Cassie Hewlett cleared a long ball to Kate Suchodolski, who one timed it to a breaking Elana Falcone who puched home the third goal with 5 minutes to go.

After the game, we had lunch with the team at the Hillerod clubhouse, came back to the hotel to re-group and took off for Copenhagen City Center where we enjoyed dinner as a team and spent the evening at Tivoli Garden and amusement park in the City Center.  A great time was had as the players took to all the rides and even found time to get in some pictures with the local boys.  It is funny and interesting as we are finding the girls easily breaking the language barrier and making friends where they go.

Tommorrow another morning game at LINGBY FC, a girls' team within the Danish Pro club. We will then watch the game with the LYNGBY FC Girls Team as the LYNGBY FC Mens Pro Team will play FC Copenhagen (who just came off a quarter finals Champions League loss to Chelsea).

E-PA 3 Hillerod 1

Good evening from Denmark! The team spent the day in Sweden sightseeing and playing our first International Friendly. The E-PA team was victorious over FC BORGEBY 6 - 2 with several E-PA players opening their International Scoring accounts.  E-PA players Elana Falcone and Nicki Weiss each contributed a pair of goals, after scroing was opened up by Lauren Briggs and late finish by Kate Suchodolski. After the conclusion of the game, the teams met at mid-field congratulated each other and posed for a combined team picture.

The players shared friendship over our hosts' dinner and the players had the opportunity to talk about the Swedish lifestyle and interests.  Seemingly enough, facebook was a hot topic.

The team today was captained by Nicole Weingartner (Oley, PA) and Gabby McKee (Pottstown, PA), each whom put in very nice performances for the E-PA team. Val Keefer and Cassie Hewlett combined for the win in the net notching their first international win as well.

Tomorrow's (Wednesday's) activities include a game against Danish Power FC Hillerod, about a 30 minute drive from our hotel/training facilities. We hava noon tip off, followed by lunch with the FC Hillerod team. After the game, the team will have a 40 minute ride to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, for our first view of this city and to enjoy the opportunity to visit the famous Tivoli Garden and an amusement park in the middle of the town.

Off to a very good start.

After roughly 19 hours of travel, the group arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark. They suited up and went right into training at our host club facilities: FC Nordsjaelland of the Danish Premier League.  We start by watching the FCN pro Team train and then head to Copenhagen for a 30 minute ferry ride to Helsenborg, Sweden to play our first international game against FC BORGEBY IF.  We will be hosted by the team at their clubhouse for dinner after enjoying the sights of Helsenborg, Sweden before heading back to our home for the week at Farum Pak Sports Conference Center and Hotel.  Eastern Pennsylvania ODP won the game 6-2 against FC BORGEBY..

It was a fight to the finish on Friday, March 4, 2011 in Phoenix, Ariz., as the 1994 Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer ODP Boys squared off against Cal-South in the semifinal of the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Championships.  Cal-South won the match 2-1, but the win did not come easily for California as our Boys kept their opponents on their toes throughout the game.

With just a minute left in regulation, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer earned a penalty kick, which Craig Kikendall converted for what appeared to be the winner. On the ensuing kickoff, Cal-South played a ball into the box which couldn’t be cleared and Cal-South's Willie Lopez roofed a shot from a sharp angle to even the score. With overtime inevitable, Sergio Buenrostro volleyed in the winner to give Cal-South two extra time goals and a return to the national final.

Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer took home third place with a 2-0 victory over Florida on Sunday. Joseph Farrell notched the game winner for Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer in the 64th minute and Darius Madison topped it off with his second of the weekend just before the final whistle.

Iowa went on to defeat Cal-South for the Championship.

It goes without saying that all of us here at Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer are proud of the effort put forward by our 1994 Boys team.  This is not the last we will hear from these talented players on our Region I championship team. The future is bright for each of them.  Great job to you and the coaching staff.

In other ODP News (Updated 3/14/11):

The US Youth Soccer 1996 ODP Girls from Regions I, II, III and IV recently returned from Costa Rica where they took part in an international tournament. Representing Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer for Region I were Cecelia Knaub, Leah Becker and Katie Suchodolski.

This was Cecelia Knaub’s first trip abroad. Among Cecelia’s soccer resume credits was her invitation to attend the U.S. Under-14 Girls’ National Team Identification Camp in 2010. Costa Rica made a big impression on this Penn Fusion 96 player.

“Their game is built on technical and creative ability,” said Cecelia. “Their technical side is much stronger than teams I have played against in the U.S. It was at a different level.”

“Seeing how the game is different around the world shows me that if I want to compete in the game when I am older I need to work on my technical ability on the ball and just loosen up on the ball.” said Cecelia. “I need to add a touch of flare and creativity to my game to make it better.”

Just as Cecelia was settling back in at home, 17-year-old Casey Morrison was packing her bags to head off to Russia for a Region I Girls ODP tournament. Morrison, recently named an All-American by the NSCAA and slated to start playing ball at Boston College in the fall, said she was out to show the coaches another side of her game.

“I want to show the coaches how much I have improved, and I want to show them more of my tactical side,” said Casey. “A lot of ODP coaches communicate with U.S. National Team coaches and that is how you get noticed. I want to make it all the way, on the national team and professionally.”

Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer’s Cassie Pecht was also slated to join Casey on the trip. Casey has been to Costa Rica, Ireland and Portugal for ODP tournaments as well.

Seen above, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer's Colton Storm (in red) playing for the U.S. U-17 National Team against the Philadelphia Union in Orlando, Fla., in early February.  Colton is part of the 94 Eastern Pennsylvania ODP squad.  His club team is HMMS Eagle FC 93.  Colton is in residency at Bradenton.

Four girls will represent Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer at US Youth Soccer's sixth national camp for the 94, 95 and 96 age groups in Pomona, Calif., Feb. 16-20, 2011.  In attendance will be 224 invitation-only players   Among the ODP elite will be:

1994 Region I
Emma Starr--Kennett Square, Pa.--Penn Fusion
Emily Armstrong--College, Pa--FC Pennsylvania Strikers
Brittany Stanko--Glenmoore, Pa--Penn Fusion Soccer Academy

1996 Region I
Elana Falcone--Pittston, Pa--Cantalao USA

A scramble format is in place with functional training, Small-Sided Games, street soccer, guest speakers and a mini round-robin tournament on the final day. The developmental camp focuses on Small-Sided Games to highlight the players individual talents.

"US Youth Soccer ODP realizes the importance of laying the groundwork for tactical and technical development of our young players," said Sam Snow, US Youth Soccer director of coaching. "It is important that the experience for the players be positive, especially in these training camp situations. What our players learn in this initial set up will set the tone for their future developmental progress."

The camp themes are interpretation and understanding the game from different perspectives and problem solving within the game. The scramble team training will focus on technical mastery under pressure, technical aspects of possession, possession as a means of penetration and how the different lines function and move the ball together.

US Youth Soccer is divided into four regions, Region I (East), Region II (Midwest), Region III (South) and Region IV (West) to assist in these national competitions and trainings.

US Youth Soccer ODP is the original Olympic development program and the only elite player development program claiming members of Major League Soccer and Women's Professional Soccer as well as a majority of current and past national and youth team members, as alumni. And, with programs in all 55 State Associations as well as regional and national level championships and participation in international tournaments, US Youth Soccer ODP continues to lead the way.

US Youth Soccer announced the All-Star Team from the recently completed US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys 1994 and 1995 Winter Interregional at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. Dec. 27-30, 2010. The 18-man rosters for the All-Star Teams were selected for their outstanding performance during the annual interregional event. Congratulations to 1994'sDarius Madison of Philadelphia, Pa., who made the cut.

Eastern Pennsylvania was the only state in Region I in 2009 with a competitive Under-12 program.
In order to make it possible for more players to be exposed to top level coaching and developmental training, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer created six district Under-12 teams for 2010-2011 throughout Eastern Pennsylvania to make it easier for players to tryout and train, especially those in the north central part of Pennsylvania. This program will better prepare these young athletes for future regional and perhaps national programs.
