2018 Virginia Friendlies Recap
The 2018 Virginia Friendlies is now in the books. With 11 buses, 24 teams and 394 players, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer once again brought one of the largest contingents to the annual ODP tournament in Williamsburg, Virginia.
All four U13 boys & girls districts--representing Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, Lancaster-Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton--made the trip as did seven of the eight U14-U17 age groups (often, with multiple teams per age group). The U17 Boys, 2017 Region I Champions, are heading to California from March 2-4 to compete in the prestigious Pacific Coast Invitational.
The Virginia Friendlies serves as the first competitive event of the ODP calendar. In Williamsburg, they played against ODP teams from across the eastern United States. Region I also sent teams to the tournament.
Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer teams had great success in Virginia, but the event is more about development and bonding. For many of the players, this is their first away trip and opportunity to play against top players from around the country.
Congratulations to all the players who participated. Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Technical Director Mike Barr, who oversaw the day-to-day operations of the tournament for the state office, penned a letter thanking families for their support: Mike Barr's letter
