Former YMS Player Conor Smith was recently named to the NCAA
Soccer Division 3 All American First Team

Smith, a graduate of the Lawrenceville School, was recently
named to the NCAA Soccer Division 3 College All American First
Team. Smith, who is Captain of the Williams College Ephs,
helped lead the team to win the 2009 NESCAC Championship and
then move on to the NCAA Tournament National Championship
semifinal game in San Antonio,Texas where they lost 2-1 to
Messiah College, the 2009 National Champions. Smith was named
to the NCAA All Tournament First Team. He was also named NESCAC
Player of the Year, ECAC New England Defensive Player of the
Year, First Team All NESCAC, and ECAC First Team. Smith, who
started soccer with the YMS Celts, coached by Gene Curran,
Rick Smith and David Simpson, was a two year Captain for the
Williams Ephs. He played center back but also helped the Ephs
offensively on set plays scoring seven goal, including three
game winners for a total of fourteen points during the 2009
season. Toward the end of the regular season, Smith incurred
multiple facial fractures in a collision with an opposing
player as he was heading the ball. After missing three games
due to the injury, he returned to action in the post season
wearing a protective face mask. In addition to the National
and League Honors, Smith was awarded the Williams Soccer MVP
award and the Matt Stauffer Leadership Award. Last summer,
Smith spent two months living with a family in Brazil as a
volunteer futebol (soccer) coach at a local orphanage. He
is a senior Economics Major and will graduate from Williams
College in May 2010.
