Board of Directors Minutes

October 4, 2004

Present: Rick Tompkins, Frank Olszewski, Tom Dougherty; Donna Outt; Bill Blaise; Kim DiFiore; Charlotte Moran, Sue Hackett, Dick Burke, Monica Chrisanthon, Bob McDade, Brian Talerico, Wim Roset, Joe Marsden, Jim Kuntz, Marty O'Donnell, Greg Lebo, Joe Dizio.

Districts 9,10,11,12,13,14,16 not present.

Motion made to approve the August meeting minutes with corrections. Motion carried.

Executive Vice President: Tom reported on the President's Assembly of the Director's of Coaching in Dallas. They did a comparison between the Super Y-League and ODP, in USYSA, and they agreed that ODP is much better. He also reported that many of the states are moving ahead with the small-sided games, and that everyone is kind of doing their own thing., and that we should just encourage it. They also, addressed parent behavior on the sidelines, and they talked about an online test that some leagues have for parents to take, before they are allowed to attend the games.

Vice President of Travel: Frank reported that the summary of the five-year plan would be completed by the next meeting. He also, reported that some counties in his area participated in youth soccer month. Also, they dedicated the lights at County Field.

Vice President of Rec.: Bill stated that May 7th 2005, would be the date for the Rec. Festival. There will be three sites, HMMS, Haverford, and they are waiting on confirmation from Allentown. The event will be a 3 v 3 small-sided event for rec. players only. The details of the tournament will be worked out by next month and the information will be given out to everyone at that time.

Treasurer's Report: Ned is away.

Registrar - Registration deadline was October 1. Several leagues still owe outstanding money, but she felt it was about 10% better than last year. Motion made by Donna to extend the deadline for registrations to Oct. 15th. Seconded by Joe: Motion Carried.

SYRA: Cindy reported that the registration process has changed for 2005. The executive board is going out to each chapter to register referees for the upcoming year. They will be giving them the book and the badges for 2005. The clinic that the usually have in February, will be held in November, this year only. They are accepting
Nominations for youth referee of the year award. A question was asked by Monica, if they would be having an assignor's certification at the AGM. Cindy said she would request one. Another question was asked about if the assignor could take the course in another state. Cindy said yes, as long as they register with the state they are going to assign in. Discussion followed about certification hours for the referees. Sue asked if we could get a clarification on this. It was stated that the training hours earned from Jan. 1, 2004, to Jan 1, 2005, would be credited for the year 2005.

President's Report: Indoor State Cup application deadline is Nov. 30th. Also, on Nov. 6th, the Women's National team will be making its tour in Phila. Rick stated that they would probably be offering CEU's for coaches before the game, and they will get that information out ASAP. You can purchase tickets at a group rate, and you can still go through the office, please contact Charlotte. The outdoor state cup application should be up on the website soon. The U-9 through U-11 will be part of he challenge cup. The U-12 though U-19's will be part of the National Championship Series. The cup committee is recommending a $10.00 per team increase to cover the expenses for the regions cost for the National Championships for the cup teams only. Bill made the motion to accept the fee increase seconded by Wim motion carried. Premier League applications, and Colonial League applications, can be found on the Region I website @ www.region1.com. Deadline for Premier is Dec. 4th, and Colonial, Dec. 30th., please don't be late. We received sponsorship money from Tide in the amount of $4,000, and $9,737.45 from Adidas. The workshop this year is March 5th at United ports Training Center in Downingtown. The clinicians so far our April Heinrichs and Mark McCrorian the women's under -19 national coach. They are still working on others to come. Please get the word out to your coaches.
The AGM will be held at the Fort Washington Holiday Inn on March 6th. The 2004 Soccer Start grant winners are, Allentown Youth Soccer Club, and Panther Valley Youth Soccer. The 2004 TOP Soccer program winners
Boyertown and Fishtown, special thanks 5to Tom Dougherty for making that happen. Grievance issues, we have had two hearings in the past two weeks.
Kathy Helm reported on boys ODP. She said that most of the age groups have had either one or two try-outs, and that the numbers were up in some of the age groups.
Charlotte reported on Girls ODP, that they have had all of their try-outs, and that they were starting the invitational ones now. She said they were working on setting up their indoor sites, and trying to firm up an extra event.

District reports:
1. Sue reported that they had a 3-hour mini clinic for referees, and Columbus Liberty Bell Tournament coming up.
2. Columbus Day tournament coming up, otherwise quiet.
3. Took on US Youth Soccer Festival Day. They had more than 200 kids come. Mike Barr did a clinic for the kids, and Melissa Weber is the congressperson for the Plymouth Meeting Area and [presented the Proclamation. The marketing director for US Youth stated that it was the single biggest event in the country.
4. They also, have a Columbus Day Tournament coming up.

6. They have a new referee assignor Hal Grahm. New executive director Bill Newark. At the last meeting Lehigh Valley still had complaints from coaches from PAGS contacting the referee assignor direct.

Donna reported that District13 held a D License Clinic.

Old Business: Joe would like to see something in writing explaining the loss of money due to the ticket sales.
Citizen's Bank has done really well. They gave Council Rock, Haverford, Wilson, Wyomissing, West Chester, Montgomery, and Governor Mifflin approx. 5,000 soccer balls.
Leukemia Society has extended their program until mid October.. Their was an article about the York team in the newspaper, three of the parents on the team had leukemia. Charlotte encourages your teams to participate, so the kids can give back to society,

New Business: League select festival will be held the 1sst weekend in April.
