Absent: Districts  2, 3, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16

Call to order: President Rick Tompkins called meeting to order at 7:40pm.

Minutes/Secretary - The minutes for the February, 2002 meeting were read. Motion by Jim Kuntz. Seconded by Kim DiFiore. Correction: referee hours for recertification should be 5-hours. Approved.

Treasurer Report -  Ned reviewed the 6-month report with the membership.  Motion to accept 6-month report was made by Wim Roset. Second by Sue Hackett. Approved

Ned is talking to local banks and will have a proposal next meeting.

President Report:

  • State cup issues on scheduling- need to try and get tentative playing dates and schedule out sooner so teams can schedule times for tournaments. 
  • U13 Challenge Cup game – Bob Fisher asked ahead of time if his game fell on a certain weekend could he reschedule due to circumstances of his team and conflicts with religious events. If not, he will withdraw and wait until next year to enter cup play.  Requested this in his application.  Board approved his request to change his playing date if the problem cannot be avoided by the coaches of the respective teams. Greg will attempt to facilitate the situation too.
  • The fine against Bustleton Bengals has been overturned.
  • A young player in the U13 age group died at the Rocket Sports Center last week (Danny Bevilacqua).
  • USSF meeting is in San Francisco on August 7th – 11.
  • New Sponsor – Tenet Health System: Warminster General, Hahnemann, and St Christopher.  We will receive $9800, and Rick reviewed the sponsorship agreement.
  • April 30th is deadline for EPYSA scholarship applications
  • EPYSA will have a bus trip us to the US v Holland game on 5/19. It is in the new stadium at Foxboro. Greg will get details out to everyone.
  • District 9- District commissioner was interviewed at the workshop and made some negative remarks about EPYSA. Article will appear will be in the Touchline.
  • Paid $61,000 to USYS and received $27,000 back through sponsorships.
  • USYS approved the following grants: Avalanche $8900 for a Soccer Start program and Hempfield SC & Schreiber Pediatric $5000 for a Top Soccer program.
  • 34 candidates at the “C” license course
  • League Select Festival will be in York on 4/13 & 14.
  • Resident and Day camp brochures are out.
  • Grievance issue - Jim Linus, coach, was given a 90-day suspension in the MAPS League.  He was coaching before his suspension was finished and was given a caution in that game.  He coaches the U16B FC Coppa. 
  • DC United would like us to partnership with them and purchase 8 full season tickets – hearing no motion from the membership this was denied.
  • April Henrichs is sponsoring a scholarship for coaches that coach women in order for them to attain their coaching licenses.

Executive VP – Frank reported on Futsal teams that went to the regional competition.  Both U12 teams came in 2nd.  Girls – Lititz;  Boys- UGH

VP Travel – Tom reported on the tournament committee meeting for the 5-year plan.  The registration committee will be meeting again next week.  Kim DiFiore asked Tom for his email.  thomas.j.dougherty@verizon.com

VP Intramural – Bill discussed Recreational 5-year planning meeting.  They are going to take a few meetings to come up a plan for the future of Rec.  How to communicate to the Rec programs is one of the big issues.

Greg is working on a membership packet for all rec programs.

SYRA – Cindy reported on the following:

  • Young Referee of the Year – Paul Haze, Male & Jessica Guh, Female
  • There are 30 candidates for the ODP tournament.
  • Recertification letters have been sent out in regards to the 5-hours needed.
  • Rick reminded Cindy that the 3-year contract would be coming up.
  • Robert Ong is handling the scheduling for the state cup’s semis & finals.

ODP Report: Kathy reported on the following:

  • National ODP Championships- Our 84 boys and girls won at the championships that were held in Plano, TX.  We will have a party to honor them on June 1st.
  • ODP is going well with outdoor training starting.
  • Coaches attended regional symposium in March.  Discussion on the regional camps new format.

District Reports:

Absent: 2, 3, 9, 11,14,16

1 – Sue now has the ribbons available. If you are interested please contact Sue. 

4 – Jim went to the Falls Twp meeting.  Also met with Hulmeville and Langhorne

5 - no report

6 – Wim went to Southern Lehigh Intramural Mtg.  Lehigh Valley Sport Zone is not sanctioned by EPYSA.  Wim reported on the 5-year planning tournament committee meeting

7 – Joe stated that his area had a lot of discussion on the 5-hour recertification referee issue. They lost 6 adult referees. They feel it should only apply to the higher level refs.  Joe asked about the 501.c plan that Ned received at Atlanta.  Ned stated he will send Joe information.

The Reading Berks Jr. SL season will be in the Fall this year.  Joe stated that the ”C” course was excellent.

8 – Jim stated that Lanco has a new web page www.lancosoccer.com.  Red Rose Classic is filled and will be 5/3, 4 &5.

10- Mike explained that they are primarily an intramural league.  They are anxious to get the manual.

13 – Donna reports that they have 30 new refs.  Spring season will start on 4/7. They will recertify their refs in May and November.

15 – Marty reported that league elections are coming up.

17 -  Kim reported that the York Cup will be held on 5/19,20,21 deadline for application is 4/15.  League select festival will be held in York and they are planning a party Saturday night for the players.  Kim asked if they could get some financial help.  Motion to give York USA $750 to cover expenses was made by Marty O’Donnell. Second by Jim Kuntz

Old Business:

Dave Edgecombe reported on the 5-year registration committee meeting. The next meeting is 4/25 at Morgantown.

Wim Roset asked about District Commissioners that do not attend meeting.  There was discussion on how this should be handled.  There is a statement in our by-laws for meetings that are missed.

Kim talked about the outdoor cup cautions/ejections.  This past weekend there were 75 yellow cards and 13 red cards issued.  The players that received red cards will have to serve their suspension in next year’s cup.  Some discussion on whether this should carry over to league play instead.

New Business:

Keystone games – Over 40 division was won by Yardley Makefield.  Congratulations.

Lehigh Valley complex will be installing lights.
