Soccer Indoor Cups kicks off in January
Teams challenge for state association indoor competition
for boys and girls, also offers an opportunity for identification
for Olympic Development Program.
Horsham, PA (October 27, 2009) - In its twenty second
year, the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Indoor Cups
announce the 2010 schedule. Teams from throughout the
state will converge on ten of the top indoor facilities
to compete for the state association's indoor bragging
rights. There will be two flights of competition, for
girls and boys, from Under 9 through under 19 age groups.
The Indoor Cups kick off with boys and girls U17 games
January 2, and run through February 14th, concluding
with the girls Under 10's.
The Indoor Cups are one of the highlight's of the season
for hundreds of teams that participate. In 2009, 451
teams entered the competitions. The 2010 Cups are expected
to feature stiff competition in all age groups and showcase
the outstanding talent, from players and coaches, that
we have in Eastern Pennsylvania.
"The EPYSA Indoor Cups were created to provide
an additional competition for teams in the winter months
as well as provide exposure to the ODP staff, as well
as some collegiate, coaches for boys and girls seeking
to play at the next level," said Mike Barr, Director
of Coaching for Eastern Pennsylvania. " The Cups
have experienced tremendous growth over the years and
we've seen the level of play increase each year. We
highly anticipate this will be no different. We also
use this as a scouting and evaluation opportunity and
I'll have ODP staff attending each one of the cups from
U12 up, looking for players we feel have the ability
to participate in ODP training this winter."
The Indoor Cups will be held at ten of the top indoor
facilities in the state.
Since its inception, several teams competing in the
Indoor Cups have gone on to captured success in the
US Youth Soccer EPYSA National Championship Series.
Six teams last year have "doubled" an Indoor
Cup and outdoor State Cup Champions. Stealing the show
was our U18 Girls CRUSA FC Bucks Vipers which won our
Indoor Cup, and went on to National glory being the
first girls Eastern Pennsylvania team to win a US Youth
Soccer National Championship. Other teams like our U9
boys Upper Makefield Patriots-Red captured the U9 Indoor
Cup and Challenge Cup.
