Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Partners With Ukrainian Nationals To Host Futbol Friday Watch Party
As the United States takes on Panama in a crucial World Cup qualifier on October 6, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer invites the soccer community to raise money and awareness for Red Card Cancer.
As part of Futbol Friday on October 6, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer will host an outdoor World Cup watch party at the Ukrainian American Sport Center in Horsham, Pennsylvania, home of the Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals, one of the most storied soccer clubs in the Philadelphia region. The United States takes on Panama at 7:30 that night in a crucial World Cup qualifying match. The Americans currently sit in fourth place in CONCACAF with the top three teams automatically advancing to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The watch party will include an outdoor screen, access to food and beverages, a silent auction and a raffle. Entertainment starts at 4:00 PM. All proceeds from the event will go to Red Card Cancer, a soccer-based cancer charity. The watch party also coincides with the Ukrainian Nationals Columbus Cup, which raises money for the Fox Chase Cancer Center, an organization Red Card Cancer supports.
“This is a great way for us to celebrate American soccer, while raising awareness and money for cancer research,” says Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer CEO Chris Branscome. “Cancer has affected all of us. We thank the Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals for their own efforts in fighting the disease and for generously opening their club to the soccer community.”
The watch party will culminate the third annual Futbol Friday, when Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer encourages everyone to wear a soccer jersey and donate money to Red Card Cancer. Over the last two years, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer has raised more than $20,000 in support of Red Card Cancer. The state association hopes to exceed that total this year.
“We are happy to join in on Futbol Friday and further our own efforts to fight cancer by supporting Red Card Cancer,” says Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals President Dan Nysch. “We look forward to a great night at the club for a great cause.”
If you cannot attend the watch party, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer still encourages you to participate in Futbol Friday by wearing a soccer jersey and making a donation. A $10 donation can be made by texting “SOCCER” to 52000. If you wish to donate more than $10, text “SOCCER” and the amount (i.e. SOCCER 50) to 91011.
