Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer will celebrate the 2018 year in soccer at the Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, February 22, 2019. In anticipation of the event, which will take place at the Sheraton Valley Forge, we'll profile honorees each day leading into the Awards Banquet. The story

Rebekah Hennigh joined the referee force at a young age. Consider that she only started playing recreational soccer at eight years old. Three years after that, she had a whistle, helping out her local clubs rec games. In 2015, Rebekah earned her U.S. Soccer Federation certification and started reffing club games. Since then, she's worked a variety of competitions including the Eastern Pennsylvania State Cup, Eastern Pennsylvania Presidents Cup, Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer league, Dillsburg Dual Shootout Tournament and Gettysburg Tournament. Rebekah attends Malone University in Canton, Ohio.

  • Started officiating at 12, reffing intramural games for Aston Youth Soccer
  • Certified U.S. Soccer Federation referee at 15

  • Refereed all levels, from intramural to cup finals and DA games


The story

A high school wrestler, Zachary Smith has remained involved with soccer as a referee. He got started in 2014 with Aston Youth Soccer, officiating intramural games. By the time he took on playoff games at the club, he decided to pursue refereeing seriously. Zachary became a U.S. Soccer Federation Grade 8 referee in 2017. He's since refereed State Cup finals, ECNL and DA games and one 2018 Eastern Presidents Cup final. Zachary, a junior, is the Vice President of the Future Business Leaders of America at Avon Grove.
