Philadelphia Soccer Club Coppa Swarm finished second in the nation on Sunday, falling 2-0 to Michigan Jaguars in the US Youth Soccer 14U Girls national title game
Philadelphia Soccer Club Coppa Swarm's run in the 2018 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series (NCS) ended on Sunday with a second place finish in the 14U girls national title game. Coppa Swarm fell 2-0 to Michigan Jaguars Green.
Philadelphia Soccer Club trailed 1-0 at half and conceded just after the break. The team controlled play for much of the second half but couldn't find the back of the net.
The loss closed a terrific week in Frisco, Texas for Coppa Swarm. The team went 2-0-1 in group play--winning Group A--before beating FC Dallas Blue, 1-0, in the semifinals. In those four games, Coppa Swarm outscored opponents 5-0. That stellar defensive record defined Coppa Swarm's NCS. Philadelphia Soccer Club finished with 10 clean sheets in 13 NCS matches and conceded just four goals overall.
In addition, Madison Crozier finished as the age group's joint top scorer at nationals with two goals.
In the process, Coppa Swarm won its second consecutive Eastern Pennsylvania State Cup and the US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championship. Their second place finish in the 2018 US Youth Soccer National Championships is the best for an Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer team since YMS Premier Xplosion won the 2016 U17 Girls national championship.
"Everyone involved with Philadelphia Soccer Club Coppa Swarm--the parents, coaches and especially the players--should be proud of their efforts during this cup run," said Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer CEO Chris Branscome. "The team represented Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer tremendously in Texas with their strong play and sportsmanship. The girls have a bright future ahead of them."
