New Coaching Curriculum unveiled

National E & D License restructure

On June 1st both the E and D License will become National Licenses standardized by US Soccer. Only coaches who have an A License from US Soccer and have undergone training by US Soccer and Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer staff will be permitted to instruct these licenses. National E License: Hosted by Soccer for Success at Widener University, Chester
First heat wave of the summer did not stop the 26 coaches, completing their National E License in Chester!!! Well done!
"Five years ago people would not have talked about Chester and Soccer in the same sentence. In just a short amount of time there is now a Professional team in our community and we were able to host nearly 50 coaches participating in the E and D Licenses at Widener University this past weekend. Without the support of EPYS and their interest in growing the game, both of these opportunities may not have been possible."

"Although I am slightly battered and bruised from a long three days with competitive soccer coaches, it was a tremendous experience.
Your Instructor's personality and professionalism was a pleasure to experience. I am VERY confident, even though the group was diverse with soccer and tenured coaches alike, you truly made all of us better."
Mike Mordan, West-Mont SA

National E License: Hosted by Boyertown SC (Gilbertsville)
Over Mother's day weekend - 16 brave coaches took part in the National E License At Gilbertsville YMCA hosted by Boyertown.
National E License: Hosted by Vereinigung Erzgebirge (VE)

"We at Vereinigung Erzgebirge (VE) are pleased to have been able to host Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer and the 29 coaches from around the area attending the 'E' coaching license. VE has a long history of soccer in the Philadelphia area with success at the adult levels with the VE Majors team having just won the state. It is important that we continue to support opportunities for coaching education for our members but also for the greater soccer community. Coaching education is so very important today. The game is changing constantly and while it is one thing to know how to play this beautiful game; it is another thing to be able to transfer that knowledge into a useable and effective format for today's youth.  We look forward to continue to be a host site for Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer and their coaching courses."

National E License held at Widner University for Chester Upland Soccer in Success Program

chestChester Borough-20130127-00042 copy

Brent Jacquette, head men’s coach at Widener University is the driving force of Chester Upland’s Soccer for Success Program. The US Soccer Foundation awarded Widener University a $200,000 grant to offer the students in Chester an after school program that uses soccer as a tool to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles.

The Chester Upland program is unique because it is for primarily African American children who have little connection to soccer. Other US Soccer Foundation programs in the United States serve predominantly Hispanic children. In the fall the program had 360 children at three different sites in Chester. The program begins again in February after a two month break and hopes to serve even more students. As the program grows, Brent sees a need for more volunteers, coaches and mentors to assure success. Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer had an opportunity to speak to Brent during an E License offered for some of the coaches in the program.

The Chester Upland Soccer for Success Program is excited to have gained the support of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer in both financial assistance and equally as important, marketing and coaching education.

This past weekend, Widener University hosted an E License Course for soccer enthusiasts throughout the area and four members of the Chester Upland Soccer for Success Program staff were able to participate. Without the support of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer and their dedication to growing the game of soccer in urban communities, our staff would not have had an opportunity to gain valuable insight into current trends in coaching and practical experience in running training sessions."

The vast network of contacts that Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer boasts have already benefited the participants in our program through coaching education for our staff, equipment donations and event support. We look forward to continuing to work with EPYSA and growing the game of soccer in Chester and Upland communities of Delaware County.

Providing Opportunities for our Spanish Speaking Coaches
Eastern Pennsylvania was proud to host and conduct the first Spanish E Course on December 14, 15 and 16. The license took place at the Capitolio Rec Center in South Philadelphia. (For those coaches who are restaurant aficionados and fond of gourmet dining, the rec center and playground is located across the street from Gino’s and Pat’s Steaks) The course was attended by 20 coaches, most who use English as their second language.
Our bilingal instructors for the course were Trajano Bastidas and Antonio Bayon, both A Licensed coaches who are part of our staff. They were remarkable in their teaching and training ability but also in explaining the intricacies of youth soccer in this country. Ruth Bull, a former National Team player from Mexico was the E License coordinator for the course.
This is just one of the many outreach programs we have begun to offer coaches and players who may not be familiar with the resources we offer. Most of these services are done at no cost to a club or teams, who may not have the financial resources to provide quality training or adequate support for their players.
