“Think About It…”
SCENARIO 1
Age: U15
Gender: Male
Level: Premier
Situation:
Championship game of a
“show case” tournament.
One team has just played an over time shoot out game.
The other team is playing in their home state. It is a very cold day and players are getting
banged up on the hard ground.
The out of state team (that has come off the over
time shoot out win to make it into this championship game)
is up 1 – 0 with four minutes to go. Since the opening minutes of the game the out-of-state
team side has been yelling at the referee for what are apparent
bias calls in the favor of the local team.
With four minutes to go the out-of-state
team has a clear scoring chance inside the box.
The player ends up on the ground after being grabbed
and spun by the local team’s last defender.
Special Circumstances:
The parents are on the same side of the field
as their team. The
player goes down on the side furthest away from the out-of-state
team’s side. At the time the incident occurs, the referee
is in good position relative to the play.
Food For Thought:
How
important is the game?
Does the teams have a “history”?
How
has the out-of-town coach been acting during the game?
Remember
that the out-of-town team is coming off a very emotional
win.
It
is cold and people are most likely exhausted from standing
out.
What Would You Do?
As a parent
As a coach
As a player
As a referee
